Update: Meet the founders — watch the Cohort 4 Launch Video!

After a long and highly competitive recruitment process, the Injini team has selected six new EdTech startups who will embark on our 5-month incubation programme starting 23 March 2020. The solutions below came out on top of over 500 application originating from 37 African countries — almost 60% of them coming from Africa’s three major markets: Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya. This year, about 25% of the total applications were female-led, a welcomed improvement from the 20% we saw in 2019.

The six EdTech solutions joining us for Cohort 4 are:

  • 1 Million Teachers — A blended learning solution for teacher professional development developed in Nigeria and running programmes in 11 African countries
  • Ambani Africa — A South African born, gamified early childhood development (ECD) educational application for learning in African languages
  • Lumen Labs — A project-based learning solution to enhance Kenyan learners’ critical thinking and digital literacy skills
  • Mosabi — A mobile financial literacy application developed in Sierra Leone, that leverages data analytics to drive financial inclusion
  • Roundafire — A South African solution that offers a library of interactive e-storybooks in African languages to promote a culture of mother-tongue literacy during ECD
  • Smartix Education — A learning platform developed in Ghana with the aim to incorporate digital teaching aids in the classroom

We look forward to seeing how these companies grow and make a positive impact on education in Africa.
