The Injini Incubation programme is made up of five main offerings that are present to support African EdTech startups. These offerings are Coaching & Workshops, Direct Funding, Intensive Support, Resources and the newly introduced Injini Market Research Projects.

Coaching & Workshops — Workshops / Webinars and one-on-one sessions from experts in education, technology and business. We’ve recently partnered with CoffeeChat to make our network of experts more accessible to our entrepreneurs.

Direct Funding — Early-stage capital and support in achieving growth. Each startup receives grant funding of R100k, with the possibility of receiving up to R1 million follow-on equity investment.

Intensive Support — The dedicated Injini team and its network offer the skills startups need but can’t afford, including sponsored tech and admin interns from the CapaCiTi Digital Career Accelerator.

Resources — Free office space and access to meeting rooms, workshop spaces and all kinds of business essentials when in Cape Town, South Africa.

Injini’s Market Research Projects

This newly introduced Market Research Project offering is specialised and customised for each of the companies we support. These projects commence just before the programme kicks off, and last for the entire duration of the incubation journey — roughly six-months. The objective of these research projects is to provide the founders in our cohort with thorough research summaries that address their key questions relating to the market they operate within and specific covering specific subject matter relevant for their solutions. After the completion of the programme, the startup teams can refer back to the research as needed.

The incorporation of the research projects also allows founders to buy back some time, which they can use to focus on pressing needs within their businesses — while at the same time, getting research-based data that will help them build their solutions well. The research projects are designed as an iterative process that involves regular meetings between the startup team and the Injini Data Insights Manager to work through the research topic and discuss relevant findings.

See the process below that shows how the research projects progress during the programme:

Step 1: To start the research projects, each of the cohort company founders submits 2–3 of their most pressing research questions to Injini.

Step 2: The startup founders, Injini’s Data Insights Manager and Injini’s Head of Programmes & Operations work together to refine and prioritise the questions submitted by the startups.

Step 3: The Data Insights Manager then works on compiling literature reviews and putting together relevant data regarding the questions at hand, and regularly (weekly during Phase 1 and 3, bi-weekly during Phase 2) meets with the startup teams to discuss the main learnings/takeaway points from the research

Step 4: This sets in motion the iterative process, guided by the startup founders, that redirects or reinforces the research focus of the Data Insights Manager as needed.

Step 5: At the end of the incubation programme, the startups have a reliable research resource they can go back to at any time and reference as they continue to build their businesses.

So during this process, the startup founders have the responsibility of providing research questions, reviewing the research findings and continually working with the Injini Data Insights Manager to guide the direction of their unique market research project. The Data Insights Manager is responsible for working with the startup teams to provide bespoke research insights in line with the submitted focus areas.

The intended outcome is a thorough research summary that seeks to answer the most relevant questions tabled by the founders, provides a deeper understanding of the African EdTech market in general and sets our startups on the right path to building evidence-based solutions.
